Who we are

An independent container platform for New Zealand

Our business model

We match your request with suppliers, we do not sell from a yard

Shipping-Containers.co.nz helps you work out which container suits your job, then passes your request to container suppliers and transport operators who cover your area. They quote you directly, and you decide whether to go ahead. If you accept a quote, you buy or hire from that supplier under their own terms.

Because we do not own containers, our advice is not shaped by what happens to be sitting in a yard. A used 20ft may be the right answer for one buyer, a 40ft high cube for the next, and hire instead of purchase for a third. Requesting quotes is free, and you never pay us for a container.

Founder

Meet Andy, your container specialist since 2013

Andreas (Andy) Atrott has worked with shipping containers since 2013. He started in Germany, moved to Australia and runs shipping-containers.com.au from Brisbane. Day to day that means inspecting containers in yards, checking door seals, floors and corner castings, and sorting out deliveries that do not go to plan.

Andy writes and checks the buying advice on this site and publishes practical videos on his YouTube channel Andy Knows Containers, covering inspections, grades, delivery and conversions.

Operator

Who runs Shipping-Containers.co.nz

The site is operated by Containerbasis Pty Ltd (ACN 684 190 145), based in New Farm, Brisbane. The same team runs shipping-containers.com.au, where buyers have used the same request and compare approach for years.

You can reach us at hello@shipping-containers.co.nz or through the contact page. Our privacy policy explains which details go to suppliers, and our terms set out what the platform does and does not do.

Our mission

Make finding a container quick and stress free

Buying a container should not mean ringing five yards and comparing quotes that are not alike. We want you to know what you need before you ask for a price, and then hear from suppliers who can actually deliver to your site.

Not sure where to start? Answer a few questions in our container finder and we will point you to the best fit.

Find the right container

Our Australian roots

Built on shipping-containers.com.au

The New Zealand site works the same way as the Australian platform: requirements first, then quotes from local suppliers, rather than being sold whatever is in stock. Containers in both countries are built to the same ISO standards and come off the same trade routes, so most of what we have learned in Australia applies here.

What is different here

Why us

What makes us different

Deep experience

Andy has bought, inspected and delivered containers since 2013. That experience goes into every guide, every size recommendation and the questions our quote form asks.

Suppliers across New Zealand

Your request goes to container suppliers and transport operators who service your address, from Northland to Southland, so the quotes you get include a delivery the supplier can actually do.

Simple and straightforward

One short form instead of a round of phone calls. You describe the job once, suppliers quote, and you compare. No account, no obligation.

Everything in one place

Sizes, grades, prices, consent, delivery and quotes on one site, so you can check the facts before you spend money.

Access to containers

Get what you need, not what is left in the yard

Modified to suit the job

Shelving, extra doors, windows, insulation or a full fit out. Suppliers with modification capacity quote on the finished unit, not just the box.

One container or ongoing supply

Homeowners, tradies, farms, schools and councils use the same form, whether you need one 20ft for the garage or several units across sites.

New, used or hire

Compare new one-trip, used and hire options side by side, and see which grade fits your budget and use.

You check before you pay

Ask each supplier for photos, the CSC plate or an inspection before you pay a deposit. Our buying checklist shows what to look for.

Our approach

How we work

German precision, local know how

A clear process from first question to delivery, combined with practical knowledge of NZ sites, councils and freight.

Expert help whenever you need it

Not sure about a size, a grade or a delivery route? Ask us. More than a decade with containers means we have usually seen your problem before.

Honest, impartial, on your side

We do not sell containers, so we have nothing to push. You get the facts, quotes from suppliers who cover your area and the final say.

How it works

What happens to your quote request

1. You describe the job

Size, condition, buy or hire, quantity, delivery address and timing go into the quote form. Access notes such as a steep driveway or a narrow gate help suppliers price delivery correctly the first time.

2. We pass it on

Your request goes to container suppliers and transport operators who service your area. Our privacy policy explains which details are shared and with whom.

3. Suppliers quote you

Suppliers contact you directly with price, condition, delivery cost and terms. Ask for photos of a used unit or arrange to inspect it before you pay a deposit.

4. You decide

Compare the quotes and choose one, or none. Requesting quotes is free. Payment, delivery booking and after sales go directly between you and the supplier.

Plain facts

What we do not do

  • We do not own stock, depots, yards or trucks.
  • We do not set supplier prices or promise delivery dates.
  • We are not a party to the contract between you and the supplier.
  • We never ask you to pay us for a container.
  • We do not give consent advice for a specific property; your council decides that.

Before you transfer money, check who you are paying. Our used container buying checklist covers inspection points and the warning signs of container scams.

What we do not do

FAQ

Questions about Shipping-Containers.co.nz

01

No. We are an independent quote platform and do not own containers, yards or trucks. Your request goes to container suppliers and transport operators who service your area, and they quote you directly. If you accept a quote, you buy or hire from that supplier under their terms of trade, and the supplier is responsible for the container and its delivery.

02

Both sites are run by Andy Atrott and work the same way: you define what you need, suppliers who cover your area quote, and you compare. The Australian site serves Australian buyers. This site covers New Zealand prices with GST, NZ consent rules, ports and delivery, and passes requests to suppliers who service New Zealand addresses.

03

No. Requesting quotes is free and you are under no obligation to accept any of them. You only pay if you decide to buy or hire from a supplier, and that payment goes to the supplier, never to us. Ask each supplier to show GST and the delivery charge clearly so you can compare quotes on the same basis.
